Liam’s story

Liam Tommie from Dunoon had no work experience to prove to an employer he had a strong work ethic and would be a valued employee.

Liam’s Jobcentre Plus personal adviser recognised his potential and arranged work experience at local Civil Engineering Contractors, Storie Argyll Ltd.

Garry Ward from Storie Argyll Ltd said: “Liam’s work ethic was a joy to experience from such a young man”.

Encouraged by this experience, Liam went on to complete a training programme for a “Streetworks” certificate that enabled him to apply for a permanent position with the company.

Storie Argyll Ltd already knew from his work experience placement how reliable and dedicated Liam was and offered him a full time position, which Liam was thrilled to accept.

Garry Ward is positive about the work experience scheme: “This placement has been of great benefit to both us as an employer and Liam. We would recommend that more employers consider taking part and giving young people a chance to gain the skills they need to apply for future job roles.”
