What training will I receive?
As an Investor in People (IiP) employer, training and development of our people is vital. Specific training will depend on where you are working, but you will be given the knowledge and any additional skills to do the job. In the longer term you will have opportunities for personal development.
Will I need to have computer skills?
Not every job in DWP involves using a computer, although the majority of jobs do in some form or other. However, you do not have to have IT skills or experience to apply for our vacancies. The extent to which you use a computer will completely depend on the job you do. Most people use email and Word, others also use Excel and other computer packages. We will provide training in the systems you need to use.
What hours will I work?
In most places our staff have the option to work 'flexi-time'. Flexi-time means that you have some flexibility when you work your contracted hours. If you work full time this is 37 hours per week (36 hours per week in our London pay zones), excluding your lunch break. Subject to the needs of the work, you can vary your start and finish times and lunch break within certain time bands.
Can I expect my salary to increase?
All employees need to satisfy minimum performance levels to qualify for an increase. DWP holds pay negotiations with its Trade Unions to agree each year's pay award and salary range increases.
