Work-life balance
DWP has very comprehensive Work-Life Balance policies.
We recognise that work-life balance is no longer just about being 'family friendly' but about offering a range of options that are available for all our staff.
We recognise that the needs of our staff can change over the years and we want to offer them the flexibility to deal with life changes in a variety of ways.
Flexible working
The most commonly used option is flexible working. There are a variety of ways in which you can work flexibly - part-time hours (part days or part week), part-year contracts such as term-time and compressed hours (e.g. working full-time hours in a 4-day week). Where a job needs full-time commitment, we may consider part-time staff for a jobshare.
Special Leave entitlements
There are a variety of special leave entitlements. Paid special leave is available for maternity, paternity or adoption, with up to 5 years' unpaid career break available to staff with care responsibilities. Paid leave may also be given for family bereavements, domestic emergencies and public duties.
Disability Leave
Staff with disabilities may be entitled to paid Disability Leave. Under the Disability Discrimination Act, our employees are also entitled to reasonable adjustments to accommodate their specific needs.
