2. Details of the contract
The creation of work experience and short fixed term employment contract opportunities for ex-offenders who have completed L3 NVQ Peer Advice projects whilst serving prisoners. The ‘ Prison Relay Workers’ role will be to meet prisoners at the gate on the day of their release and escort them to their accommodation if they have any, or work with them to obtain accommodation. They will also make follow-up visits to help with practical issues e.g. utilities and furniture, make referrals to relevant services, liaise with landlords as necessary, and provide general support and encouragement, with the aim of moving ex-offenders into sustainable employment and reduce re-offending.
3. Value of the contract
£ 138,000 exclusive of VAT.
4. Duration of the contract
12 month contract, commencing in May 2010, to enable the Department to evaluate the effectiveness of the service.
