DWP Supplier Conference – 2 June 2009

15 June 2009

The 3rd DWP Supplier Conference took place at the Novotel Hotel, London St Pancras on 2 June. The event was opened by Kitty Ussher, the DWP Parliamentary Undersecretary at the tme, who recognised the importance of delivering together in challenging economic times. The event was attended by delegates broadly representing DWP’s key suppliers, who had the opportunity to participate in a series of interactive workshops. Topics included Partnership in the Supply Chain and Innovation. Clearly a conference of this type has limited capacity, however all DWP suppliers are encouraged to make themselves familiar with the material and provide comments and feedback through normal channels if they wish. You can find copies of the presentations from the event below.

Innovation Procurement Plans

19 May 2009

DWP has developed an Innovation Procurement Plan as a subset of the Commercial Strategy setting out how we will build a public procurement culture that both stimulates innovation in the economy and helps the department to meet its future needs at better value for money for the taxpayer. It outlines how we will drive innovation through procurement and use innovative procurement practices, such as encouraging existing suppliers to develop and implement innovative ideas, harnessing innovative ideas from firms not currently supplying DWP, encouraging the use of a diverse supply chain and using electronic systems to improve efficiencies.

Lee Tribe, Commercial Strategy & Development Director, said:

"We are delighted to announce the launch of this plan. It complements our Commercial Strategy and highlights our apporach to procuring innovative solutions that provide better public services and respond to societal challenges."

We will be working with colleagues in the Department for Innovation, Universities & Skills and the Office of Government Commerce to report on the plan and establish a mechanism for sharing best practice.
