Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP)
When SMP might stop
You cannot continue to get SMP if:
- after the baby is born, you start work during your MPP for an employer who did not employ you in the qualifying week or
- you are taken into legal custody at any time during the MPP
If you cannot get SMP or it is stopped for either of the above reasons, you may be able to get Maternity Allowance from Jobcentre Plus.
