The Common Assessment Framework (CAF) Form
What is the CAF form?
The CAF is a shared assessment and planning framework for use across all children’s services and all local areas in England. It aims to help early identification of children and young people’s additional needs and promote co-ordinated service provision to meet them. The Common Assessment Framework is not in use in other parts of the United Kingdom.
What does the CAF form consist of?
- A pre-assessment checklist to help decide who would benefit from a common assessment.
- A process to enable experts in the children and young people’s workforce to undertake a common assessment and then act on the result.
- A standard form to record the assessment
- A delivery plan and review form
Who is the CAF for?
The CAF is aimed at children and young people with additional needs who have needs that are not being met by their current service provision.
Who will use the CAF form?
Staff working in health, education, early years and child care.
