What evidence is available?

Sources of Evidence Information Provided Limitation of Evidence
Parent/Carer First source of information and associated evidence. Does not have specialist knowledge.
GPFR The GP will be able to confirm the diagnosis and will have records of gluten free items prescribed. The child is likely to have coeliac disease follow up at the hospital. The GP may not know about ongoing problems with the disease or dietary treatment.
Hospital FR The specialist consultant is likely to be able to confirm the diagnosis and will be able to give a reasonable description of the effects of the condition on the child and their family. If the problems relate to following the gluten free diet, the specialist may not have information about this. The hospital dietician seeing the family will be a better source of evidence in such cases.
