Parent / carer First source of information and associated evidence. Does not have specialist knowledge.

  • Child/adolescent Psychiatrist
  • Paediatrician
  • Psychologist
  • Give a profile of significant behavioural issues, medication and most up to date treatment and its effect.
  • Provides a cognitive profile (level of learning difficulty)
  • Provide information on most up to date treatment and its effect and any further treatment planned.
  • Those with significant behavioural problems are most likely to be under the care of a psychiatrist/ paediatrician with ASD interest.
It is important to determine who the individual is who regularly manages the condition. This enables contact with the appropriate healthcare professional.
Speech/language therapist Give a profile of function in terms of language and communication skills. Same as above
Occupational therapist Gives a profile of significant sensory issues. Same as above
