Who does it affect?

It is difficult to estimate the incidence of writer’s cramp as many cases may well go unreported or undiagnosed. However, one estimate of prevalence was of 69 per 100,000 of the population, with a slightly higher incidence in men than women (Ratio of 1.3-1). It tends to appear more commonly between ages 30 to 60 years with onset generally being earlier in women. Around 5% of people with their disorder have a family history of the condition.
