The Thyroid Gland
This gland is situated in the neck and has two lobes, one either side of the trachea (windpipe), just below the larynx (voice box or Adam's apple).
The two lobes are joined across the front of the windpipe by a narrow isthmus. Normally this gland is not visible in the neck but in certain circumstances it can become enlarged to give a prominent swelling and thickening of the front of the neck.
