Ulcers and Gangrene

PVD

Ulcers and gangrene occurring in a critically ischaemic limb, arise as a result of tissue ischaemia or tissue death. Because of lack of sensation, the ischaemic foot is often completely painless, leading to a late presentation of symptoms, and consequent late treatment.

Diabetes

Foot ulceration usually arises in a foot where there exists a combination of peripheral vascular disease (ischaemia), sensory, motor and autonomic neuropathy (damage to a susceptible foot where sensation is reduced) and subsequent infection.
