Stages
A number staging system is used, ranging from 1 to 4 (I to IV). A lower number means the disease is smaller and less wide spread and outcome with treatment is likely to be better. In this guidance Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is divided into two groups ‘early’ or stage I disease and ‘advanced’ disease – stages II, III or IV. This is because the treatment and outcome is different between these two groups.
