Treatment of Isolated Plasmacytoma of Bone
Local radiotherapy alone is used to treat this condition; daily treatment is given over 4-6 weeks. Fatigue may persist for some weeks after treatment but is not expected to be prolonged. Radiotherapy treatment almost always successfully puts this disease into remission; however pain may persist after treatment even when disease is in remission. Surgery may be needed to stabilise affected bones. A significant number of patients who receive curative treatment for isolated plasmacytoma of bone, relapse a few years later, either with other plasmacytomas or with myeloma. Chemotherapy may also be given.
