What Is Meningitis?

Meningitis – “an inflammation of the meninges due to infection by viruses or bacteria." -- Concise Oxford Dictionary.

This is a disease affecting the outer coverings of the brain, the pia and arachnoid membranes. Inflammation may be sterile or infective, though it usually describes inflammation owing to infective agents.
