Structures of the heart – diagram

Venous (deoxygenated) blood comes to the right side of the heart via the Superior Vena Cava, (which brings blood from the head and neck), and Inferior Vena Cava, (which brings blood from the body)

It travels from the Right Atrium through the Tricuspid Valve (shown in green), to the Right Ventricle.

It then goes to the lungs through the Pulmonary Artery.

The Left Atrium drains oxygen- rich blood from the lungs through four Pulmonary Veins, and discharges blood into the Left Ventricle, (through the Mitral Valve, shown in green),into the Left Ventricle, which pumps it into the Aorta, and to the rest of the body.
