Ezetimibe

Ezetimibe are Cholesterol Absorption Inhibitors and are sometimes used in combination with a statin, or on their own. They work by decreasing the absorption of cholesterol from the small intestine.

The usual dose is 10 mg per day.

The proprietary name is Ezetrol.

Contra-indications.

Ezetimibes are contraindicated if breast-feeding.

Side-effects

The side effects can be gastro-intestinal disturbances; headache, fatigue; myalgia; rarely arthralgia, hypersensitivity reactions including rash and angioedema, hepatitis; very rarely pancreatitis, cholelithiasis, cholecystitis, thrombocytopenia, raised creatine kinase, myopathy and rhabdomyolysis.
