Gastritis and Duodenitis

Inflammation of the stomach and duodenum (gastritis and duodenitis respectively) cause symptoms of dyspepsia. The inflammation can be seen on direct inspection of the internal surface of the organs at gastroscopy (Endoscopy) and confirmed by biopsy. Inflammation is a non-specific finding seen in association with peptic ulceration, drug induced dyspepsia, helicobacter infection, gastro-oesophageal reflux, alcohol excess and misuse etc. It is managed by investigation and treatment of the underlying cause.

People with gastritis and duodenitis do not experience significant or persistent functional restrictions, or have any need for help with self-care or difficulty in walking.
