Course and Outcome – Social Phobias

The condition usually begins between the ages of 17 and 30. It may be a little more common in women than men. The condition is life-long and unremitting if untreated, and there is a substantial rate of relapse even after prolonged treatment. About a third of patients will enjoy a complete remission during long-term follow-up.
