Treatment
Most fractures heal without problems. The following are general principles of treatment:
- If the fractured bone is out of alignment, the pieces must first be realigned. This will require a general anaesthetic or painkillers.
- The fracture must be immobilised. Splints, slings, or plaster casts may be used. Sometimes an operation may be necessary and metal screws, wires, pins or plates may be needed to hold the pieces of bone together
