Clinical features
The main symptom of bladder cancer is blood in the urine; this may be visible to the naked eye or picked up on dip stick testing – so called microscopic haematuria (meaning blood in the urine). It is usually painless.
Occasionally there may be other symptoms including:
- Frequency – needing to pass urine more often
- Urgency – needing to pass urine very soon after becoming aware the bladder feels full
- Pain on passing urine – this is sometimes called dysuria
