Number of employees in a pension scheme sponsored by their employer

Indicator description

The indicator measures the number of employee jobs (ie excluding the self-employed) where the individual is aged at least 22 years of age and under State Pension age and earning above the earnings threshold for automatic enrolment (£8,105 in 2012-13 earnings terms) and is participating in a pension scheme sponsored by their employer. An individual may have more than one job and may therefore be included in the count more than once depending on their circumstances.
This indicator is measured using data from the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) which is an Office for National Statistics (ONS) Survey. Data are available annually 14 months after period of data.
An increase of at least 100,000 employee jobs, based on unrounded data would demonstrate that an improvement has been achieved.

Latest data – published 6 June 2012

The number of employees in a pension scheme sponsored by their employer decreased between 2010 and 2011 by 0.3 million, continuing the recent downward trend. This change is statistically significant.
