Progress so far on the Review
Following publication of the White Paper in May 2006, an advisory group was established to help the Government carry out an ongoing review. The advisory group is supported by a team from within the Department for Work and Pensions and includes representatives from a wide range of external stakeholders.
On 13 December 2006 two external reviewers, Chris Lewin and Ed Sweeney, were appointed to work with the advisory group. The reviewers were appointed to help focus and direct the work of the review.
The reviewers issued a consultation document (297KB)
on 9 March 2007. It set out the issues which were raised during their meetings with stakeholders and sought the views of readers on a variety of areas. The closing date for comments was 6 April 2007.
The report to Government from the external reviewers, the Deregulatory Review of Private Pensions (262KB) , was published on 25 July 2007.
The Government response (311KB) to the findings of the independent review was published on 22 October 2007. The response sets out proposals for change and sought views. The consultation period ended on 15 November. The response to the consultation (91KB) was published on 5 December 2007.
The Government issued a consultation
paper (2MB) on risk sharing within occupational pension schemes on 5
June 2008. An impact
assessment (76KB) was
published alongside the consultation document. The Government response to the consultation (201KB) was published on 11 December 2008.
Work has continued following the Government response. An information note for employers giving more information about risk sharing options for pension schemes which are possible under current legislation was published on 30 March 2010.
