Deregulatory Review

A rolling deregulatory review of private pensions legislation was announced in May 2006 in the White Paper "Security in retirement: towards a new pensions system".

The aim of the review is to make the private pensions regulatory framework simpler. It has examined the regulation of private pensions, drawing on proposals from stakeholders, taking account of the balance between protecting members and encouraging employer provision of pensions and having regard to legal and other constraints. The Review has recommended changes that aim to make running schemes easier, lighten regulation and reduce bureaucracy and cost.

An assessment of whether and how collective defined contribution schemes might operate in the UK was published on 15 December 2009. The assessment is covered in the two following documents and the link to the research report.
