Older Peoples Day

Full of life

UK Older People’s Day is on 1 October to coincide with the UN International Day of Older Persons. This will be the sixth year the Day has been celebrated in the UK and we hope to build on the successes of previous years. The main aim for the Day is to be a national celebration of the achievements and contributions that older people make to our society and to the economy. Through this we hope to start to tackle negative attitudes and outdated stereotypes.

This year is the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations and we would like to extend the reach of UK Older People's Day even further with a wide range of local events for people to go along to, on or around the 1 October.

Full of Life

People are living longer. By 2020, half the population of the UK will be aged 50 and over. The Government wants to ensure that we adapt successfully to the fundamental long term changes that this will bring to society.

The Government and other supporting groups, under the “Full of Life” banner, have made UK Older People’s Day the focus of a wide programme of activity, celebrating later life.

Get involved

We hope you’ll be inspired to get involved. To help you get started we have developed a range of resources including event toolkits, logos, poster templates, letterheads, press releases and more on our campaign site.

Use the Full of Life artwork in your own materials promoting anything you are doing to support UK Older People's Day.
