2007: The next steps

With the publication of two White Papers and the Pensions Bill, 2006 was an important year for pensions reform. But 2007 will be even more significant because it’s time we start turning our proposals into reality.
We will be focusing on getting the first Pensions Bill through Parliament. Second Reading is on Tuesday with detailed scrutiny to follow in the Commons Committee and Report Stage before the Bill passes to the House of Lords for their detailed examination.
Hopefully, by now you will have had a chance to digest our Personal Accounts White Paper – which will make saving easier for those who have yet to provide for their retirement. Once the consultation phase concludes on March 20 and we’ve considered your views, we’ll be seeking legislation to deliver the Personal Accounts scheme.
