The Pensions Advisory Service
As you know I’m always keen to hear your views on the blog but sometimes I can’t provide answers to questions if they relate to a particular set of personal circumstances. However, that isn’t to say that sort of confidential advice isn’t out there. If you haven’t yet heard of The Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS) it’s worth checking out their site. You can find them at www.pensionsadvisoryservice.org.uk. TPAS is a not-for-profit organisation that provides free, expert information on a whole range of pensions issues. Meanwhile, keep sending in your views, ideas and thoughts on our reform proposals.

Pension Reform? How or why should we believe any politician of any political persuasion? Since 1979 the basic state pension has decreased in real terms by over £60.00 per week. People who have paid into SERPs since its initiation have seen the goalposts for benefitting from it moved so many times the term fraud would not be inappropriate. Company pension plans being raided by the companies themselves or by the malfeasance of their administrators and all you lot can come up with is more of the same spurious hogwash! I believe around 3k pensioners die in the UK each year directly attributable to hyperthermia becuase they cannot live on the basic state pension. There is no demographic bomb, that’s negative spin with no purpose other than financial greed. The true facts are a disgrace namely that your administration taxes poverty and your policies on pensions are designed to maximise misery and are totally amoral. Stop wasting your time at our cost; simply set the BSP at a genuine life level.

I have tried twice here to suggest you
display mortality data for men and women
in the UK. Histograms showing the numbers
of departures for all ages. A display can
be for one calendar year and the displays
for previous times say ten, twenty, fifty
years ago to illustrate increasing life
expectancy. Glib statements in the media
about “everyone” living longer need to be
balanced by the fuller picture!

the only true way to reform the pension scheme is to first increase the basic pension and second remove all pensioners from the income tax trap. You are only judged by what people get every week to live on not on long term promises made to improve your chances of re-election.The young listen to the elderly and realise pensions only benefit government and not the individual so do not take out pensions.

My wife moved to the US from Northern Ireland 8 years ago. She still receives yearly pension statements showing how her UK pension will disapear from fees before she retires. When I tried to transfer the money to a US account I was told it could not be done so I asked why they keep sendlng the statements. I just found a web site that claims UK pensions can be transferred to th US but I’m not sure I can trust what I read on the internet.
