A National Audit Office report 'Progress in tackling pensioner poverty' published on 21 July highlights the Government's progress in tackling poverty. It shows we have made "real and substantial progress" in achieving our aim to help the poorest pensioners.

On Monday 24 July we published research on how older people manage their income, what they spend it on, and whether they can afford to maintain a decent lifestyle.
We are keen to hear your views about how best to measure pensioner poverty and what type of targets could help us combat it.
On 25 July, James Purnell held a webchat on the subject of pensioner poverty with experts from Age Concern and Help the Aged. The webchat included contributions from members of the public. The webchat is now closed but you can still see what was discussed.
