Office for Disability Issues
The Office for Disability Issues (ODI) was launched on 1 December 2005 and is the focal point within Government for coordinating the development of policy and the delivery of services for disabled people.
Although the ODI is a cross government initiative, it is located in the DWP as this is the department which leads on rights, benefits and employment programmes for disabled people. The ODI also supports the Minister for Disabled People, who currently works in DWP.
The Office for Disability Issues has been set up to:
- Provide a focus for disability issues across all departments
- Oversee and drive through the implementation of the Government's 20-year strategy for disabled people;
- Co-ordinate within and across government the development of policy and delivery of services for disabled people
- Promote change
- Support the Minister for Disabled People and other ministerial collegues
- Develop and agree indicators across departments to monitor progress towards the vision of substantive equaility for disabled people by 2025
- set an example to others in its practises and activities
