Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Iain Duncan Smith welcomed his new ministerial team to the Department, which included the appointment of Mark Hoban and Esther McVey.

Mr Duncan Smith said:

This Department is entering a challenging but exciting period as we prepare to put into reality the many changes and reforms our welfare system desperately needs.

I am looking forward to working with Mark and Esther who, alongside Steve Webb and David Freud, give us a strong team committed to making the welfare state fit for the 21st century.

Minister of State for Employment Mark Hoban said:

There are few things more important than ensuring people have the help and support they need to get into work. The Government has already improved the support available through initiatives like the Work Programme, I want to give people all the help and support they need to take up the jobs that are out there.

I also want to ensure that we give every possible opportunity to our young people, building on the early successes of the Youth Contract and work experience schemes. Getting youngsters onto that first rung of the jobs ladder is one of the most important tasks facing any Employment Minister.

Minister for Disabled People Esther McVey said:

The DWP is delivering some of the most important reforms in Government. Supporting disabled people to live fulfilling lives and restoring fairness to the welfare system is vital. I am delighted to be joining the Department at such a crucial time.
