22 September 2011 – Publication of DWP research report 774: Routes onto Employment and Support Allowance

The Department for Work and Pensions today publishes a report of findings from a survey of Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) claimants. The report provides detailed information about the characteristics of people who claim ESA and changes in their employment situation over a period of around 18 months.

  1.   2. The research involved face-to-face interviews with a sample of 3,650 people who claimed ESA between April and June 2009, and follow-up telephone interviews with 1,842 participants who agreed to be contacted again.
  3.
