23 March 2007 - Hutton announces re-appointments to the HSC
John Hutton, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions is pleased to announce that Mr Robin Dahlberg has been appointed to the Health and Safety Commission (HSC).
Following an open recruitment exercise Mr Robin Dahlberg has been appointed as a Commissioner with a key role helping to integrate and promote the wider public interest in the development and delivery of the Health and Safety Commission strategy and programmes.
Mr Dahlberg takes up his post on the 1st April 2007.
On hearing of his appointment Mr Dahlberg said “ I am looking forward to playing my part supporting the existing strong efforts of the Commission in pursuit of the wholehearted adoption of sensible risk policies and practices aimed at ever improving health and safety in the British workplace for the benefit of not only workers but also members of the public.”

Robin Dahlberg
Robin has 18 years experience at Managing Director/Chief Executive/Board Member level in organisations in the private, public and non-for-profit sectors. For most of this time, Robin provided commercial IT solutions to major organisations in the city, to government and to multinationals.
He is a Board Member of the Security Industry Authority and was Acting Chairman for the period 1 February 2006 through 14 January 2007. He is a Lay Member on the Advisory Panel on Standards for the Planning Inspectorate.
Since May 2004, he has worked in a number of roles at Citizens Advice, the headquarters organisation of the Citizens Advice Bureau, chairing a strategic review, fundraising and delivering new services. He is also a volunteer Generalist Adviser at Westminster Citizens Advice Bureau.
He is not engaged in any political activity.
Health and Safety Commission
The HSC is an independent body set up under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. Its operational arm, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), is a separate statutory body. Commissioners adopt the role of non-executive directors of the HSE.
The overall purpose of the HSC and HSE is to ensure that risks to people’s health and safety from work activities are properly controlled. The Commission provides advice and information to Ministers and others on health and safety matters, and proposes new legislation after consultation with interested parties.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. These appointments have been made in accordance with the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointment Code of Practice.
