EAS CIS implementation

The EAS CIS Implementation Project, part of the Housing Benefit Information Flows Programme, has been set up to build on the security improvements to the Customer Information System (CIS) delivered through the GCSx CoCo. It uses the Employee Authentication Service (EAS) to strengthen access security to CIS.

This page will help you find information about what is going on with the EAS CIS Implementation Project and how it relates to you and your local body.

What is EAS?

EAS is a cross-government system that provides improved security when people access central government databases. It provides stronger authentication and authorisation of those people through a 2-factor authentication procedure (using a secret PIN and a one-time password generating device or token).

It is co-funded by the Department for Children Schools and Families (DCSF), Communities and Local Government and Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The EAS CIS Implementation Project is looking for local authorities to pilot the system and to act as early adopters in the implementation.

EAS CIS workshop – IRRV conference 30 September 2009

Following the IRRV workshop, we have updated:

We have published answers to questions raised at the conference. We have also included these in the FAQs.

We are interested in your views on the processes set out in the presentation. Please complete this questionnaire and email it to eas.info@dwp.gsi.gov.uk

How to register your CIS users onto EAS

All local authority members accessing CIS will need to move onto the EAS system by the end of 2010 when the current password access will be shut off.  This means that all CIS users will need to be registered onto EAS through a ‘Registration Authority’ (RA).

There are two ways to access an RA:

This page will focus on the establishment of the national RA and the LAs that opt into it. As the project develops we will look to add a wide range of information such as implementation timelines, training material and so on.

Currently all relevant information is held in the latest information section below.
