EAS – Employee Authentication Service

What is EAS?

EAS is a cross-government system that provides improved security when people access central government databases. It provides stronger authentication and authorisation of those people through a 2-factor authentication procedure (using a unique logon identifier, a secret PIN and a one-time password generating device or token). EAS has been utilised to improve the security of access to DWP information databases such as the Customer Information System (CIS) delivered through the GCSx CoCo. EAS communications has documents and other communications that were used during EAS implementation and beyond, including letters and technical updates for local authorities.

We have revised the EAS (CIS) Technical Implementation Guide in July 2012. We produce the guide to help local authority ICT staff complete the technical set up for the LA Agents and to enable the CIS end users to access the DWP CIS system via EAS. Please make sure you have the most up to date version – this is version 3.1.

We will not be publishing the EAS Technical Implementation Guide on this website. We will send copies and future revisions to local authority ICT staff on request via their gcsx/gsx/gse/gsi mailboxes. You can get a copy from the Shared Services NRA HUB Team SHSVCS.NRA@DWP.GSI.GOV.UK

If you have any queries or would like more information please email us at: SHSVCS.NRA@DWP.GSI.GOV.UK

Communicating with local authorities

Please note that the NRA HUB will only correspond with local authorities via their gcsx/gsx/gse mailboxes. Any local authority staff involved with EAS should ensure that the NRA HUB team have details of your gcsx/gsx/gse mailbox address.

Any change to the sponsor(s) and agent(s) at the LA, or their contact details, must be reported to the Shared Services NRA HUB immediately.

Troubleshooting:

If you have any issues please email the NRA HUB SHSVCS.NRA@DWP.GSI.GOV.UK

Frequently asked questions

We have revised the frequently asked questions based on current queries, feedback from the pilots and to reflect the fact that EAS is now at steady state.
