Guardian's Allowance in social security agreement countries
If you are looking after somebody else's child after one or both of the child's parents have died, you may be entitled to UK Guardian's Allowance. You can usually be paid UK Guardian's Allowance for any time you or the child are in the countries listed below.
Barbados
Any time either of the child's parents spent in Barbados can be used to help your claim. To qualify, the allowance must have been payable if you or the child had been ordinarily resident in the UK. If you wish to claim Barbadian Orphan's Benefit in Barbados, any insurance that either of the child's parents paid in the UK can be used to help your claim. You can be paid Barbadian Orphan's Benefit for any time you or the child are in the UK.
Israel
You can be paid Israeli Orphan's Benefit for any time the child is ordinarily resident in the UK. But the child and the parent must both have been residing in Israel or the UK when the parent died. If you could get both UK Guardian's Allowance and Israeli Orphan's Benefit for the same child, you will only be paid by the country the child is residing in.
Jamaica
Any time either of the child's parents spent in Jamaica can be used to help your claim. To qualify, the allowance must have been payable if you or the child had been ordinarily resident in the UK. If you wish to claim Jamaican Orphan's Benefit in Jamaica, any insurance that either of the child's parents paid in the UK can be used to help your claim. You can be paid Jamaican Orphan's Benefit for any time you or the child are in the UK. But if you could get both UK Guardian's Allowance and Jamaican Orphan's Benefit for the same child, you will only be paid by the country the child is living in.
Jersey and Guernsey
Any time either of the child's parents spent in Guernsey can be used to help your claim. You can be paid UK Guardian's Allowance for any time you or the child is in Guernsey. If you wish to claim Guernsey Orphan's Benefit in Guernsey, any insurance that either of the child's parents paid in the UK can be used to help your claim. You can be paid Guernsey Orphan's Benefit for any time you or the child is in the UK. But if you could get both UK Guardian's Allowance and Guernsey Orphan's Benefit for the same child, you will only be paid by the country the child is living in, providing the benefit would have been payable if you or the child had been resident in the United Kingdom.
Mauritius
Any time either of the child's parents spent in Mauritius can be used to help your claim. If you wish to claim Mauritian Orphan's Benefit in Mauritius, any insurance that either of the child's parents paid in the UK can be used to help your claim. You can be paid Mauritian Orphan's Benefit for any time you or the child are in the UK. But if you could get both UK Guardian's Allowance and Mauritian Orphan's Benefit for the same child, you will only be paid by the country the child is living in.
New Zealand
If you and any child for whom you wish to claim are ordinarily resident in the UK, then any time either of the child's parents spent in New Zealand can be used to help your claim. If either parent of the child was born in New Zealand, that parent shall be treated as if he/she had been born in the UK. If you, or the child for whom benefit is payable, cease to be ordinarily resident in the UK, any benefit awarded under the agreement will no longer be payable.
Turkey
Any time either of the child's parents was insured in Turkey can be used to help your claim.
USA
You can be paid UK Guardian's Allowance for any time you or the child are in the USA.
