Job Deal the fast track to success
Scott (not his real name) had always wanted to be a Car Paint Sprayer. He has previously completed an apprenticeship but then went to prison. On his release he started looking for work in this industry but employers all wanted people with Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA). In June 2011 Scott was referred to Job Deal in Hampshire, an employment project which helps ex-offenders, supporting them in completing CVs, disclosure, application forms etc. Job Deal is run in the South East by Serco, and is jointly funded by the National Offender Management Service Co-Financing Organisation and the European Social Fund.
Scott showed great commitment and progress. His case manager was able to obtain funding for Scott to undertake his ATA qualifications, which he took in September 2011 and passed with flying colours. From then on Scott attended weekly meetings with his case manager who worked with him to find work in his chosen industry. A few days work in Newbury were a start, but together they were determined to secure Scott full time sustainable employment. He then applied to a well known Formula 1 company who were looking for an ATA qualified spray painter, and they came back to him offering him work that week, starting at £15 per hour.
Scott was over the moon at having this opportunity, and expressed his thanks to the Job Deal team for their help and support. His employment has been a great success and he is moving from a short term contract to full-time employment as a car sprayer with the company from March 2012. Scott, the Job Deal team and his new employers are all delighted.
