Graduation for Cornwall School for Social Entrepreneurs

Cornwall School for Social Entrepreneurs has celebrated the graduation of the fourth cohort of its students.

The Cornwall SSE Fellowship ceremony took place on Friday, 5 October at the Eden Project where Charlotte Young – Central SSE Chair of Trustees, was the keynote speaker.

In the morning prior to the ceremony Cornwall SSE also hosted a Business Breakfast to highlight why social enterprises are such a key part of Cornwall’s economy.

Cornwall SSE is the seventh SSE to become established in the UK with investment from the ESF (European Social Fund) Convergence Programme co-financed by Jobcentre Plus through the Cornwall Works for Social Enterprise programme.

At the graduation event the 18 new fellows, who are based across Cornwall from Bude to Penzance and St Ives, described their ideas and businesses. Charlotte Young, Central SSE Chair of Trustees, was the keynote speaker. She said to the 18 new fellows:

“You are joining a group of at least 1,000 people around the world. This is not an academic qualification but I think that this has far more cachet than any academic qualification would do and it says far more about you. You foster trust which is a rare commodity. Go on fostering trust – make the world a better place.”

Mark Yeoman, Head of ESF Convergence Communications, said:

“Congratulations to the 18 new fellows who join the growing number of social entrepreneurs contributing positively to the economy of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in a whole variety of imaginative ways that are supporting people and communities.”

The 18 now join the 39 fellows who have already been supported by Cornwall SSE since 2009. Social enterprises plough all profit made back into the companies.
