Gibraltar welcomes visitors from European Commission and BIS

On 8 November, representatives from the European Commission and Department for Business, Innovation and Skills attended the Gibraltar ESF Regional Management Committee and visited a new ESF project.
The Gibraltar ESF Committee comprises representatives from various Gibraltar Government departments and bodies such as the Gibraltar Chamber of Commerce and Federation of Small Businesses. In the morning committee members welcomed Filip Busz - Head of Unit for ESF in DG Employment, Eleuterio (Lute) Rodriguez - Desk Officer for ESF in Gibraltar and Sue Baxter - Deputy Director EU Programmes, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
During the meeting Charles Collinson – EU Programmes Manager, Gibraltar and Sue Baxter presented their latest thinking on the 2014-2020 Programming period, followed by comments from Filip Busz outlining the Commission’s position.
In the afternoon Filip and Lute were taken on a tour of the Rock Fortress World War ll Tunnels. The tunnels were recently restored as a military heritage centre using finance from the European Regional Development Fund. Here they met one of the three members of staff who form part of the new Gibraltar ESF Employment Strategy Scheme which aims to reduce local unemployment. The scheme is open to all registered unemployed people in Gibraltar, offering training that is designed to meet the labour market needs of potential employers.
