Cornwall Works WISE Awards
The 2012 Cornwall Works WISE Awards – a celebration of achievements in employment and skills activity – have now been launched, with an invitation for nominations.
This is the fifth year that the highly popular awards – which are organised by the Convergence Partnership Office, Jobcentre Plus and the Skills Funding Agency – have been held. The ceremony is due to take place on 9 May to coincide with Europe Day – a day aimed at highlighting European Union economic investment successes.
The Cornwall Works WISE awards recognise and celebrate excellence in employment and skills activity in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The ceremony itself is also designed to help recognise the important role that the European Social Fund – at present through the ESF Convergence Programme – has played in employment and skills provision and innovation across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
There are eight WISE awards plus one special outstanding achievement award honouring an individual or organisation.
WISE award winners in 2011 included Rick Steins world famous Padstow fish restaurant; the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Team; TRAC Services Ltd, a pharmaceutical regulatory company; a waste management company and a man who designed and built a robot that he now uses to carry out specialist mine surveys around the world. All were commended by Employment Minister Chris Grayling.
