Town and Country Furniture – case study
Town and Country Furniture in Warwickshire has expanded its customer base simply by thinking about the requirements of disabled people. The shop produces bespoke furniture to meet the individual needs of their disabled customers. For example, staff recently made a chest of drawers with large handles for a customer with visual impairments. Although it is only a small adjustment to the piece of furniture it will really benefit the customer, allowing him/her to open and close the drawer with ease. Town and Country Furniture also regularly produces wardrobes that are at the right height for wheelchair users. Adjustments to the design of the furniture ensure wheelchair users can easily open the doors and access the rails.
Andy Jones of Town and Country Furniture says, “Meeting the needs of disabled customers doesn’t have to be expensive or time consuming. By producing furniture that caters for individual requirements we are able to develop our business.”
Reasonable adjustments have also been made to the premises to ensure disabled customers can easily access the shop. A ramp has been installed at the front of the shop for wheelchair users and rails have been fitted alongside the ramp to support customers with mobility impairments. The workshop floor is also kept tidy to ensure there is sufficient space for wheelchair users to move around and view the furniture.
