The Showroom cinema – case study

Picture of Showroom Cinema

Disabled visitors frequently visit the Showroom cinema in Sheffield because they know the facilities and service effectively meet their individual needs. The cinema has made a number of adjustments to ensure disabled customers can enjoy the Showroom experience regardless of their impairments.

Level access and automatic doors ensure that entering the building is not a problem for people with mobility impairments. A low level counter at the box office enables them to buy their tickets easily.

Disabled customer, Peter Beckett, highlights the chairs in the foyer as a simple adjustment that significantly improves his visits to the cinema. Peter said: “Most businesses probably wouldn’t think a few chairs for customers would make an impact but, at the Showroom, seating in the foyer is invaluable to people who need to rest while they wait for their film to start.”

Large print brochures are available to people with visual impairments and people with a learning disability. A large print menu is also available in the café. An infra-red sound facility in each of the theatres enables customers with hearing impairments to enjoy every film on show.
