The result is that 77% of our members will be severely restricted by the proposed cut in the Mobility Allowance. Local Councils do not pay for mobility and most people will as a result be confined to their residential care homes for longer periods. This cannot be good for them, for society or for the community. They will be unable in some instances be able to travel to work or other services. The Mobility Allowance is not a duplicated benefit and this is a mistaken belief by the Government. Please can you look at this issue again as many people wiith learning diasabilities at the bottom end of society are rightly concerned about this. Why is that those who are penalised at a time of financial problems are the poorest in society when those bankers who caused the problems in the first place are still being supported by the state and still claiming their bonuses? We are not all in this together as some would have us think. Yours sincerly Michael Claydon Director/Trustee South Wilts Mencap 21 Tryhorn Drive Bishopdown Salisbury Wilts SP1 3WA mike.claydon@ntlworld.com
