Jobseeking, benefits and pensions – who to contact

Who to contact to:

  • make a claim
  • get information about a claim
  • report a change of circumstances.

Report benefit fraud

Deliberately withholding information that affects your claim is stealing. That’s why we are targeting benefit thieves. We’re working alongside other government departments to cut down welfare fraud and error.

Complaints and appeals

The Department for Work and Pensions is committed to providing quality services. If you are not satisfied, we want to hear your complaint. For some decisions, you can appeal to an independent tribunal.

Data Protection requests

The Data Protection Act 1998 gives you the right to know what information we hold about you.

Freedom of Information requests

The Freedom of Information (FoI) Act 2000 gives everyone the right to access information held by public authorities.

Solicitors and legal representatives

If you are a solicitor or a legal representative acting on behalf of an individual, write to the office that deals with them. You must include a letter of authority from the individual if you want us to provide information about them.

Solicitors sending documents to the Secretary of State

If you are a solicitor or a legal representative acting on behalf of an individual, please write to the office that deals with them. You must include a letter of authority from the individual if you want us to provide information about them.

Contact DWP ministers

Government Ministers receive a large volume of correspondence and will only respond personally in exceptional cases. Ministers cannot intervene in individual cases – about benefit entitlement, for example.
