Employer attitudes to risk sharing in pension schemes: a qualitative study
by Andrew Thomas and Anthony AllenThis report presents findings from qualitative research with employers aimed at exploring and understanding their attitudes to risk sharing in pension schemes. Thirty face-to-face interviews were conducted with a range of employers across a range of key variables including type of pension provision, size and industry. Fieldwork took place in May and June 2008.
The research was designed to explore employer attitudes towards risk sharing in pension schemes; perceptions of the barriers to risk sharing in pension schemes today; reactions to different types of risk sharing; and the likelihood of employers making changes to current or future provision if new flexibilities were introduced.
