Delivering benefits and services for black and minority ethnic older people
Research Report No. 201
By Helen Barnard and Nick Pettigrew
This research was commissioned to fill an important gap in the Department's knowledge about the barriers to benefit take-up and service delivery needs of pensioners from black and minority ethnic groups. The project, undertaken by BMRB, consisted of case studies in seven different areas. In each area the researchers focussed on one minority ethnic group: African, Caribbean, Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Chinese and Irish. In-depth interviews were undertaken with pensioners, staff from The Pension Service, local authority and both mainstream and smaller voluntary and community groups.
