Pensions 2002: Public attitudes to pensions and saving for retirement

Research Report No. 193

By Victoria Mayhew

This report examines the relationship between people's economic and social circumstances, their knowledge of pensions, attitudes to retirement planning and savings behaviour. It is based on a series of questions placed in the National Statistics Omnibus Survey in March 2002. The survey is representative of adults aged 16 or over in Great Britain. The research follows up similar questions placed in the National Statistics Omnibus in spring 2000. Analyses were undertaken by Victoria Mayhew, formerly of the DWP Social Research Division.
