In-House Report No. 138
By Anna Haddrell, Rob Hardcastle, Margaret Hersee, Maureen Moroney and Yvonne Smith
This research was commissioned to look at the impact of the European Social Fund on the Information Society and the role information and communication technologies (ICTs) are playing within ESF programmes. Key issues addressed included the extent to which ESF is improving access and tackling the digital divide; addressing skill shortages; impacts on encouraging new means of learning; and encouraging greater use of ICT in job search activity or providing information on learning opportunities. The information society is one of three horizontal themes identified in the ESF Objective 3 Programme in England. The work was carried out by researchers from CRG, Cardiff.
