Maternity and Paternity Rights in Britain 2002: Survey of Parents

In-House Report No. 131

By Maria Hudson, Stephen Lissenburgh and Melahat Sahin-Dikmen

This research presents the results of two self-completion surveys with mothers and their partners exploring the awareness, experiences, behaviour, provision and take up of maternity and paternity rights in Britain 2002. It adds to a time series of information following a similar format to previous surveys conducted, enabling the examination of the impact of 1999 legislative changes. This research also serves as a baseline against which to track how reforms to maternity and paternity rights in 2003 impact on parents. This survey was jointly commissioned by DWP and DTI and conducted by the Policy Studies Institute (PSI).
