This report presents findings from the final element of research to evaluate the Medical Evidence Gathering pilot which ran in Sheffield and Rotherham in 2002. The aim of the pilot was to test alternative arrangements for providing medical evidence to approved doctors who give advice to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Decision Makers, DWP processing staff and approved doctors. The research was commissioned by the DWP and was carried out by the Social Policy Research Unit at University of York.
