Local Area Characteristics and Individual Behaviour

This report considers how far information about the local area informs analysis of individual/family behaviour. Specifically it looks at the influence of local area on employment participation, childcare use, partnership formation and level of hardship. It is based on the Family and Children's Study data for 2000-2001, linked to various pieces of information available at the local area level. The main pieces of information included concerning the locality are: region, ward level deprivation information, ward-level urban/rural classification, and unemployment in the local travel to work area.
