14 August 2007 – Royal Mail Industrial Action – Your questions answered
The Communications Worker’s Union have decided to suspend their industrial action. As a result we will start to post payments to customers who usually receive their money by cheque as normal. From Thursday 15 August, customers will no longer need to collect their cheques from their post office. Please read the information below which gives more details.
My payment is normally paid straight to my account. Will my payment be affected by the dispute?
No. Payments made in this way are unaffected by the postal industrial action.
What happens now the industrial action has been suspended?
Customers who would normally expect to receive a cheque up to and including Wednesday 15 August (Jobseeker's Allowance customers who signed on Thursday 9 August) should collect their cheque from their nearest Post Office. At close of business on Wednesday 15 August, Post Offices will post out all unclaimed cheques to customers. Customers who are not sure which Post Office their cheque has been sent to can ring the Helpline number 0845 600 4271. The Helpline will remain open until 5pm on Wednesday 15 August.
I am expecting a cheque payment – has it been posted to my normal address?
Cheque payments expected to arrive from Thursday 15 August onwards (Jobseeker’s Allowance customers who signed on or after Friday 10 August) will be posted to customers as normal.
Customers of The Pension Service expecting to receive a cheque from Tuesday 14 August (Wednesday 15 August payday) will receive them through Royal Mail as normal.
My cheque hasn’t turned up, what should I do?
Well established procedures are in place for dealing with delayed, missing and lost payments. Where a cheque does not arrive, customers should contact their normal paying office.
How do I avoid this kind of inconvenience in the future?
By joining the vast majority of DWP customers who have their payments paid directly into their account. You can make this switch easily by contacting your payment office.
